When I was really little, I always wanted to be a writer. When I got a little bit older I wasnt sure what I wanted to do, sometimes I thought I would like to be a policewoman, sometimes I wanted to follow a career in music. When I was younger I didnt see science as a career option, just something that I had to do at school. This was partly because I didnt know anything about the different career options in science! I did a Chemistry Camp when I was in Yr9, where we made paracetamol. I thought that was really cool so started looking into pharmaceutics as a career. When I realised that I wanted a broader experience of science, I decided to do a biomedical science degree and it was only really then that I saw the career paths available to me. If I won the money, I would love to work with schools to talk with students about all the different types of careers you can do in science, as that would have really helped me in school!

When I was at school I wanted to be a detective and solve mysteries! then I tried acting and I really enjoyed it so I wanted to be an actress. It was not until I was 12 that I started really enjoying science (mostly biology). They were suddenly talking about things that I had never heard off: cells, atoms, energy…it sounded cool! When I was 16, I got accepted in a “young scientists” program from Spain. We did science-related activities (science camps, stays in labs) and got to know real scientists. It was really cool and made me realize how fun science could be! It was then that I started considering it as a professional choice.
