I’ve come across lungs that were from people who smoked. It is insane the effect and the damage smoking does to lungs. I know we hear that all the time, but to actually see with your own eyes that the tar from smoking literally turns parts of your lungs black… is bonkers! Don’t smoke! The main job of the lungs obviously is to breathe, to take in oxygen and to breathe our carbon dioxide. Oxygen needs to travel down to the alveoli in the bottom of the lungs to then move into the blood and be sent round the body. Damage to lungs tends to mean it’s much more difficult for oxygen to get into the blood, that means it can’t be sent round the body to help create energy for cells.
