Hiccups are a result of your diaphragm, the dome-shaped muscle between your lungs and stomach, becoming irritated and contracting quickly, forcing a hiccup, or quick breathe. This get caught in your voice box and can make a squeeky sound! I get hiccups when I am hungry, I am guessing because it causes my stomach to contract, which might in turn make the diaphragm contract
