Ooh interesting one. I prefer a private way of life, although recognition within the scientific community would be cool. There isnt a lot of money in science, which is a shame, but scientists are passionate enough to do it anyway! The only reason I would like to be famous would be to spread the word about science and to go on Strictly Come Dancing!

I don’t seek fame, no. Luckily, it is very difficult to become famous as a scientist. It is possible to have a name in the scientific community, which is always good because it means that you have made a great contribution. However, I can’t imagine a scientist being stopped in the street for a photo or an autograph (would be fun to watch). I guess you can get there if you do public engagement on the TV or radio. If that was the reason, I wouldn’t mind dealing with “fame”.

Brilliant! Has there been a scientist on Strictly? I bet Brian Cox could cha cha with the best of them.
I prefer a private way of life, though it is nice to be acknowledged for your work from time to time!

I am definitely not interested in fame! But I donĀ“t really want a quite life either. Like the others, I feel it is important in any field to be recognised for what you do well. Fame is something else entirely! (and a lot of fame is actually infamy…..people always remember you if you did something wrong!)
