In theory, yes. When we are embryos in the womb, this is essentially what we are – a cell that can make every other kind of cell. As we grow, the cells become more specialised and different cell types are made. However, we are very good at doing that naturally and get a lot of support from the mother when we grow. I don’t know how easy it would be to make a human in the lab but if we got the right environment and signals, it could be possible. We are on the way to being able to grown organs in the lab now!
